From Fort to Port: 597th Transportation Brigade Synchronizes with Industry Partners at NDTA 2026

FORT EUSTIS, Va. — Senior leaders and logistics planners from the 597th Transportation Brigade participated in executive networking, command synchronization, and bilateral engagements during the 2026 National Defense Transportation Association (NDTA) and U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) Fall Meeting, held Oct. 26-29 at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, Texas.

Operating under the global summit’s theme, "Delivering Hope, Projecting Lethality—Theater to Globe!", Air Force Gen. Randall Reed, Commander of USTRANSCOM, served as the keynote speaker.

The brigade's operational presence at the global meeting follows recent high-level praise from Reed, who highlighted the unit's massive volume during command assessments earlier this year, noting that the 597th moved more cargo than any other unit across ARTRANS

Throughout the four-day event, senior defense officials and commercial transport leaders analyzed the rapid evolution of "contested logistics," evaluating the exact strategic frameworks that the 597th Transportation Brigade executes daily from its home-station hubs.

Syncing on the Convention Floor

Representing the brigade, 597th Transportation Brigade Commander COL Edward K. Woo, 842nd Transportation Battalion Commander LTC Dezerie Jemmott, and 841st Transportation Battalion Commander LTC Christopher Fields led the unit’s delegation on the floor as they focused on intensive executive-level synchronizations with commercial sealift CEOs, rail executives, and joint force planners to bridge the gap between abstract Pentagon doctrine and live pier operations.

The delegation leveraged the conference's core focus areas to refine how the brigade's home-station assets support global operations:

  • Operational Convergence: Leadership synchronized with civilian infrastructure experts to evaluate how the brigade can better integrate data loops between active-duty soldiers, Department of the Army civilians, commercial transport operators, and civilian port authorities.
  • The 'Fourth Component': The team met with commercial rail and maritime carriers to strengthen the integration of commercial transportation lines along the East and Gulf Coasts, ensuring civilian transport assets remain locked into strict military deployment timelines.
  • Endurance Under Strain: Planners observed strategic discussions on navigating cyber disruptions and physical seaport blockades, aligning these insights with the high-tempo surface deployment pipelines managed by the 841st Transportation Battalion in Charleston, South Carolina, and the 842nd Transportation Battalion in Beaumont, Texas.

Meeting the 60-Day Benchmark

The engagements on the floor centered heavily on modernizing surface deployment architecture to meet U.S. Army Transportation Command’s (ARTRANS) updated operating concept. The framework demands that regional commands maintain the resilient network capacity to successfully project the joint force into actively contested environments within a strict 60-day baseline benchmark.

By connecting with industry partners at the nation's premier logistics summit, the leadership of the 597th Transportation Brigade ensured that the unit's day-to-day surface tracking and port clearance missions remain perfectly synchronized with the joint deployment enterprise.
